Preparing For Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Preparing For Laser Hair Removal

If you are suffering with unwanted body hair we can tell you everything to start preparing for laser hair removal. You might be ready to take the plunge into laser hair removal, but, before you show up for your first treatment, you will have a consultation with a laser hair removal specialist.  They will go over everything to start preparing for laser hair removal, as well as to answer your questions.

In the meantime, however, get started preparing for laser hair removal treatments:

Stop Tanning

Hair removal is most effective when your skin is closest to its natural, non-tanned, color. All clients have different skin tones, and your specialist can work with them, but in general, the hair removal laser works best when your skin is as naturally light as it can be. This means no tanning beds, no sitting outside trying to get a tan, and no going out without sunscreen on the body part being treated for two weeks prior to your appointment.

Double Check Your Skincare Regimen

There are some anti-aging or acne products you may need to discontinue using for a few days prior to and following your appointment. There are ingredients that might cause irritation such as benzoyl peroxide, alpha-hydroxy acid, salicylic acid and others. Discontinue use of these products if advised to.

Stop Plucking, Tweezing and Waxing

In order for the laser to be able to stop hair growth, the hair shaft needs to be kept intact. This means that removing hair from the shaft, whether by tweezing, waxing or threading, will make the treatment less effective, and hair removal will require more appointments. You can use chemical depilatories such as Nair, but not within two days of your appointment. You can also shave or trim your hair as desired.

Call With Questions

The laser skin care professionals at Indy Laser understand the anticipation of the first laser hair removal experience can be stressful, because even if you prepare, you still do not know what to expect. If you have questions or concerns before your treatment, please don’t hesitate to call! Your specialist will answer all of your questions so that you are as comfortable as possible when you arrive for your appointment.

Your healthcare professional may give out slightly different instructions based on your details.  So, always follow your provider’s directions to the letter, and call if  you have questions or if something is not perfectly clear when preparing for laser hair removal.
